On the path to digital transformation in the company, the development of new, data-driven business areas is an important driver.
Developing new business models is a multi-stage innovation process that usually consists of the following phases:
- Idea generation
- Business model development
- Piloting (Minimum Viable Product, MVP)
- Productization / Implementation
- Scaling
Target group
The workshop is aimed at companies that have an initial idea for a new business model and would like to better understand and classify its opportunities and potential, as well as necessary resources and efforts.

This workshop directs the focus to the formulation of the business model with regard to the development of new data-driven business areas. It considers the essential aspects and their interdependencies in terms of:
- The means and resources a company needs to successfully implement data-driven business areas
- the values that are important for customers and the company
- the customer segments to be addressed by the service
- the relevant cost / revenue structures = monetization
During the workshop, the following guiding questions will be addressed:
- Elaboration of the value proposition or unique selling proposition of the product or service
- Which customer segments are addressed?
- What does the intended customer relationship look like?
- Which distribution channels or market accesses are targeted?
- What key activities are needed to establish the service?
- Which Partner Eco system is required?
- What key resources (hardware, software, infrastructure, …) are needed to build and deliver the service?
- What are the key output drivers?
- What does the revenue structure look like?
Advantages
The goal of the workshop “Business Model Development with the Business Model Canvas” is:
- All participants have the same understanding of the new business model
- The key action areas or elements of the business model that are critical to success are identified, structured by category and visualized.
- The business idea can be presented to the management.

Requirements
The idea generation phase is complete and the results can be built upon. All workshop participants know and understand the idea of the business model. Optionally, this can be methodically ensured in a preceding half-day workshop.
According to the objective of the workshop, we recommend participation from an interdisciplinary team (different roles) with max. 6 people:
- Executive management or person responsible for innovation and business model development or digitization
- Head of the department from which the idea comes
- Business Development or Sales Manager
- Sales representative or service employee with customer perspective / advocate for the customer
Duration
The workshop can be conducted at the customer’s site, at the Trebing + Himstedt Innovation Studio, or remotely in one day with appropriate preparation and follow-up.
